Zagreb to the Adriatic
Wholesale charcoal for Croatia
Virovo Promet supplies hardwood charcoal and briquettes to Croatia by pallet, full truck or container and quotes each order individually. The buyers are distributors, hotels, restaurants and konobe along the coast, and retail chains stocking for the barbecue season. Trucks travel through Serbia and enter the European Union at the Bajakovo–Batrovci crossing, where customs clearance takes place, or come in through Hungary.
How we deliver to Croatia
Road freight through Serbia is the usual route to Croatia. Trucks leave Skopje, cross into Serbia at Preševo and enter the EU at Bajakovo–Batrovci, the external border where import clearance is done, before continuing to Zagreb or down the coast to Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. The route through Hungary is an alternative when it fits the delivery point.
Full 13.6 m trucks carry about 33 Euro pallets; smaller lots go as groupage. Rijeka is a container port, so a sea container is possible for a very large order, though for Croatia road usually wins on simplicity. Transit is a few days by road and is confirmed in the quotation. Incoterms are agreed per order, from EXW Skopje to delivered.
Customs and documents for Croatia
Ask your customs representative to confirm the classification, origin documents and import requirements for the actual goods and destination. Dispatch from Skopje does not, by itself, prove North Macedonian origin or establish a preferential duty rate.
Before ordering, agree the invoice, packing list, transport document and any additional product, traceability or safety documents required for your shipment. The broker and carrier should confirm clearance or transit arrangements and responsibilities before loading.
Who buys from us in Croatia
The Adriatic season drives demand for drveni ugljen in Croatia. From May to September the konobe, hotels and beach restaurants along the coast run their roštilj every evening, and distributors in Split, Zadar, Rijeka and Dubrovnik stock up in spring so they are not caught short in July. Zagreb and the continental cities buy more evenly through the year.
Restaurants with long evening service usually want Marabu for its long burn (indicatively up to around 7 hours, varying by lot); konobe grilling fish and meat over an open fire often prefer oak or beech; retail chains take charcoal briquettes and lump charcoal in 2 to 10 kg bags with Croatian labels. Private-label bags for a chain or a distributor's own brand are available on request. The range is subject to availability and includes acacia among other types.
What to include in your enquiry
Tell us the product, the quantity in bags, pallets or trucks, the bag size, the delivery address in Croatia, your preferred Incoterm, the date you need the goods, and whether you want your own brand on the bag. For pre-season orders, say when your season starts so loading can be planned back from it. Virovo Promet confirms in writing the availability, net load, packaging, the documents we can issue for the lot and the terms.
Virovo Promet is a family-owned charcoal wholesaler in Skopje, North Macedonia, founded in 1990, exporting full-container loads of hardwood charcoal across Europe and beyond. You are welcome to visit the Skopje office and warehouse, Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 16:00, or to arrange a video call in English, Serbian or Macedonian.
When should a Croatian distributor order for the summer season?
In spring, before the May to September season. Give us your season start and we plan loading back from it; the exact date is confirmed in the quotation.
Where is customs clearance done for a truck from Skopje to Croatia?
At the EU external border, normally Bajakovo–Batrovci between Serbia and Croatia, or at the Hungarian border if that route is used. Your customs agent files the declaration with our documents.
Does EUDR affect charcoal imports into Croatia?
Yes. Wood charcoal (HS 4402) is in scope from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators, from 30 June 2027 for most micro and small operators, with exceptions. We discuss the due-diligence information for your order and make no compliance claim.
Can you deliver to Split and the Dalmatian coast?
Yes. Trucks continue from Zagreb down to Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. Give us the exact unloading address and any access limits for a full truck.
Do you supply private-label charcoal for Croatian retail?
Yes, on request. Private-label and multilingual bags are available for most types, with extra lead time.
