Wholesale charcoal for Greece
Virovo Promet supplies hardwood charcoal and briquettes to Greece by pallet, full truck or container, quoted per order. Buyers are tavernas, psistaries, hotels and distributors in Thessaloniki, Athens and on the islands. Trucks cross at Bogorodica–Evzoni near Gevgelija on the E75, and Thessaloniki, about 230 km from Skopje, is the container port we use for overseas shipments.
How we deliver to Greece
Greece is next door. Trucks leave Skopje on the E75, cross at Bogorodica–Evzoni near Gevgelija and reach Thessaloniki, about 230 km away, then continue to Athens and the rest of the mainland. Full 13.6 m trucks carry about 33 Euro pallets; groupage covers a few pallets for a taverna group or a regional distributor. Deliveries to the islands are planned with your forwarder via Piraeus as a separate leg.
Thessaloniki is also the deep-sea port from which Virovo Promet ships containers overseas, so a Greek importer who prefers a 20 ft or 40 ft container can take delivery at the port. Transit is a few days by road and is confirmed in the quotation. Incoterms are agreed per order, from EXW Skopje to delivered.
Customs and documents for Greece
Ask your customs representative to confirm the classification, origin documents and import requirements for the actual goods and destination. Dispatch from Skopje does not, by itself, prove North Macedonian origin or establish a preferential duty rate.
Before ordering, agree the invoice, packing list, transport document and any additional product, traceability or safety documents required for your shipment. The broker and carrier should confirm clearance or transit arrangements and responsibilities before loading.
Who buys from us in Greece
Κάρβουνα for the ψησταριά is the request we hear most from Greece. Souvlaki runs on charcoal, and the ταβέρνα and psistaria trade peaks in the summer season when the coast and the islands fill up. Restaurants with long service ask for Marabu (indicatively up to around 7 hours of burn, varying by lot, with low smoke and sparks once fully lit); classic souvlaki grills often prefer oak or beech lump charcoal.
Hotels and distributors in Thessaloniki and Athens stock a mix for the season and ask for retail bags of 2 to 10 kg with Greek labels for supermarkets. Charcoal briquettes suit buyers who want even, predictable heat. Private-label bags are available on request. The range is subject to availability and includes acacia among others.
What to include in your enquiry
Send the product, the quantity in bags, pallets, trucks or containers, the bag size, the delivery address in Greece or the port, the Incoterm you prefer, your target date and any private-label needs. For island deliveries name the island and the forwarder you use. Virovo Promet confirms in writing the availability, the net load, the packaging, the documents for that lot and the terms.
Virovo Promet is a family-owned charcoal wholesaler in Skopje, North Macedonia, founded in 1990, exporting full-container loads of hardwood charcoal across Europe and beyond. From Thessaloniki the Skopje office and warehouse is a comfortable drive, and everyone is welcome Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 16:00; a video call in English is the alternative.
How far is Thessaloniki from your warehouse?
About 230 km. Trucks cross at Bogorodica–Evzoni near Gevgelija on the E75. Transit is a few days by road, confirmed in the quotation.
Can you deliver to the islands?
Yes, with your forwarder. Mainland delivery goes by truck; the island leg via Piraeus is planned and quoted separately.
Do you ship containers from Thessaloniki?
Yes. Thessaloniki is the deep-sea port we use for overseas containers, and a Greek importer can take a 20 ft or 40 ft container there. IMDG UN 1361 Class 4.2 applies.
When should a taverna or distributor order for summer?
Before the season, ideally in spring. Give us your quantity and date and we plan loading back from it.
Is the charcoal duty-free in Greece under the SAA?
Have your customs representative verify the current tariff and any applicable preference for the exact product and origin. We confirm the available origin documents for the actual lot; shipment from Skopje alone is not proof of preferential origin.
